Local business owner has ties to Oakland through children, employees

Kathy Genautis is the single mom of two, Abbie and Jonathan, who both attend Oakland University. Abbie is in the nursing program and Jonathan is a music major.

Along with working full time for Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. in Auburn Hills, Kathy is the owner of Sweets!, a coffee shop and ice cream parlor that also serves fresh baked goods and homemade soup.

Sweets! also employs two additional Oakland University Students, Nicole Bazinski and Kelly Perrin, both of whom are considered part of the Genautis’ extended family. Sweets! has become a popular spot for a group of OU medical students, who you can often find studying and hanging out.

There are a number of special tours and events, including "A Servant's Life," "Life at the Great Estate" and "Cocktails & Culture," where guests are encouraged to don their best Downton-style attire for an evening of cocktails, presentations and entertainment.

OU Parents Fund to Support Campus Safety

OUPD Sustainment Fund to benefit from OU parent generosity

In 2014, a new fund was created to enhance the campus experience for current Oakland University students by supporting areas of critical concern for parents.

One of the first projects the fund will support is the OU Police Department Sustainment Fund.

The Sustainment Fund is used for community safety systems that include security cameras, emergency phones and card readers in several buildings across campus, including residence halls.

As the OU Parents Fund continues to grow, additional projects will benefit! To learn more about the Parents Fund, visit www.isupportOU.com/parentsfund.

The Graham Health Center is here to help!

The Graham Health Center (GHC) is a convenient, affordable on-campus heath center. It offers a wide variety of services and accepts most types of insurance (only a copy of the card is needed).

The Center also offers over-the-counter medication and health supplies for purchase, and administers most vaccines your student may need.

The goal of the GHC is to keep students healthy so they thrive both physically and academically. To that end, we strongly recommend that students receive an annual flu vaccine as well as various age appropriate vaccines (meningitis, whooping cough, measles, mumps etc.).

If you or your student are unsure of about any immunization needs, call the GHC at 248-370-2341. We would be happy to assist you.
